Cosmetic Neurotoxins

10 Minutes to a More Refreshed and Happier Looking You!

Wondering, what exactly a neurotoxin is? A neurotoxin is a highly, purified protein complex. Found in nature, bacterium, known as Clostridium botulinum, once refined and injected, essentially becomes a muscle relaxant and reduces the activity of the muscle. Once relaxed, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are reduced, you’ve smoother, wrinkle free skin and a more youthful appearance. Most neurotoxins last between 3-4 months, however, individual results may vary.

Which one is for you?

Botox

The #1 anti-aging treatment in the world! FDA approved in the United States in 2002, Botox® Cosmetic is by far, the most requested, non-surgical, aesthetic treatment. Botox® Cosmetic is a safe and simple procedure. Facial expressions, frowning, squinting, raising our brows, even smiling over the years, cause our facial muscles to contract and crease the skin. When these facial expressions are repeated over the years, lines and wrinkles eventually form, making people look older, angry, and/or tired.

When injected, Botox® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface, blocking the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles to develop. Your results give you a natural, relaxed, smooth, wrinkle free appearance that typically lasts between 3-4 months. Although many people find that it lasts longer with repeated use over time.

We recommend that patients schedule their next treatment, when they start to see the development of fine lines appearing, or simply schedule every 3 months to maintain their results.

Treatments take 10 minutes, require virtually no recovery time and are often called a “lunchtime” treatment. Common areas of treatment are crow’s feet, frown lines (between the brows), forehead creases, neck, jowls and lips..

Dysport

In 2009, the neurotoxin, Dysport®, (formally known as Reloxin in Europe) was FDA approved in the United States.

Like Botox® Cosmetic, Dysport® is also made from botulinum toxin, type A, however the dilution is different, yet administered the same as Botox® Cosmetic. Dysport® also contains cow’s milk protein, and if you have an allergen to that protein, you should use another neurotoxin to achieve wrinkle free results. Dysport® is an effective, non –surgical treatment to reduce wrinkles in the glabellar, forehead and crow’s feet area of the face. The injections are painless and as your treatment takes effect, you will see the improvement in your appearance within a few days.

Xeomin

Xeomin injections are also available at The Neigel Center. Like Botox® Cosmetic and Dysport®, Xeomin (incobotulinum toxin A) is an injectable botulinum toxin indicated for the correction of moderate to severe frown lines and wrinkles. Injections are quick and the effects can last about three months.

Neurotoxins can be used in conjunction with other anti-aging treatments, such as dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation or cosmetic surgery.

Whether you choose to do your treatment with Dr. Neigel or our P.A., Sarah Lazarus, together, you will decide which product is right for you. Our goal is to keep you looking like the best version of yourself!
